The Alpine Bucket Hat

Designed to protect effortlessly.

It rains approximately 140 days a year in the Netherlands. That is a little less than three days a week (2.66 to be exact). This hat is meant for those moments when it will inevitably rain and you are caught off guard.

Weighing only 48 grams, the Alpine Bucket Hat folds up and can fit into any pocket, yet is completely waterproof up to 20.000 mm. A laminated brim and minimalist black ripstop give the Alpine a sophisticated look and style without being too much.

How designing a bucket hat works.

Designing a bucket is simple, but mastering it took over 4 months and countless prototypes. The brim usually holds the same shape all the way around, covering too much of the face and not enough of the neck. Then there is the problem of binding the brim to the rest, where a lot of water collects on the seam so normal stitching would not be sufficient. The answer turned out to be an overlapping inside panel for the brim that is laminated of the reinforced stitch that connects the outside together.

Works a well in the summer as it does in the fall.

The entire hat is made from ultralight, 90 grams/sqm, 3L waterproof fabric breathes better than most coated cotton fabrics, so it does not heat up nearly as much as other waterproof hat solutions. On the inside, all exposed seams are sealed with flexible contrasting black seam tape, which means it can function as a literal bucket if you would be crazy enough to carry water with it.

One of the most advanced pieces of headwear, outside of military purposes.

Utilising a collection of over a thousand measurements and advanced materials, the Alpine fits 95% of all adults. Laser-cut elements further allow for a minuscule seam-allowance of only 3mm, combined with laminating makes the Alpine featherlight without compromising on function.
